As the Academic Associate, you will participate in research and academic activities for the Emergency Medicine Service Line in collaboration with physicians, nurses, research interns and ancillary staff. In this role, you will lead related quality management, administrative and educational projects within established deadlines and academic goals of the program. You will be required to follow hospital procedure and protocol in order to maintain a safe environment.
Participates in Research activities including:
Collaborating with physicians to design and implement study protocols.
Identifies, screens, enrolls and ensures consent of patients for research studies in acute care clinical environments (Emergency Dept, Intensive Care, Neurology, etc).
Ensures ethical and legal standards are maintained (Good Clinical Practice) as well as compliance with local, state and national regulatory policies and procedures.
Procures funding, negotiates budgets and communicates with extramural funding sources and national coordinating sites for institutional and multi-center research studies.
Oversees data collection and regulatory documentation. Liaisons with the Institutional Review Board (IRB) and Biomedical Research Alliance of New York, as necessary.
Ensures biological specimens are processed and shipped per Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) and guidelines.
Leads and guides EM research staff in completion of assigned projects.
Prepares for and Co-Chairs weekly Research Committee Meetings. Provides peer feedback to presenters on study design, written proposal and issues relating to proposal implementation.
Administers the Research Internship Training Program (volunteers), including recruiting, training, and on-going administration of the program. Maintains collaborative relationships with colleges and universities recruiting pre-med and allied health students.
Conducts literary searches, writes abstracts, manuscripts and presentations and coordinates submissions to outside agencies, including the American College of Emergency Physicians and the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine, as well as other sub-specialty agencies.
Implements Academic activities including:
Coordinates Continuing Medial Education (CME) seminars and conferences in collaboration with physician course directors.
Leads research teams to complete accreditation requirements for Accreditation Council for Graduate medical Education, Office of Continuing Medical Education, NYS DOH and Joint Commission.
Implements Performance Improvement projects, analyzes data and presents results/outcomes to clinicians and management as necessary.
Tracks and reports on departmental faculty achievements, including publication, presentation, awards and promotions.
Monitors departmental progress on assigned projects and provides reports to management on status.
Bachelor's Degree in related field, required.
Minimum of one (1) year basic or clinical research experience, required.
Certified in Haz-Mat Training for packing and shipping, as needed per study protocols, required.
Leadership experience as exemplified by membership in extra-curricular and/or professional associations.
Excellent interpersonal, presentation and communication skills, required.
